The Lunar New Year, the first few days of the first moon, is the most important festivals of a year in China. People will wear new dress, make dumplings, cut woods, light color lamps, and put on red pictures on both side of the door. Those are evolved from a sacrifice to the goddess in primitive society. People will tell you a legend which talk about the festival forming when you get to China.
Once upon a time, there lived a beast Nian in the deep ocean, and he had a harsh and cruel manner. He would go out of ocean and come to land at the every end of the year. After he left, the villages he reached would result a great flood. This would brought vital destruction to the villagers. The villagers were worried about Nian, and finally they thought a good idea to protect their lives. They put the red pictures on the both side of the door, those could counteract evil force, they cut wood, meats, and vegetable at their yards, those could cause a huge sound like thunder which could scare him back to the ocean. Meanwhile they wore a new dress, and ate dumpling to celebrate the specific day.
Even though this is a folklore, this gives us a good lesson: whenever you are in bad situation, never say give up, as long as you hold firmly and steadfastly to a purpose, the final victory will belong to you.
